Part of my entryway renovation was a creating a console shelf. I didn’t want a full table in order to keep this area as open and clutter free as possible. Today I’m just going to share with you some console shelves that I came across. Most of the images are from entryways but these could work in a variety of rooms. Maybe you need an extra storage area in a bathroom. These would work perfectly under a window or next to a bed in a childs’ bedroom. I’ve seen a lot of examples where they are mounted under flat screen televisions as well. Console shelves are the perfect solution for when you don’t have a lot of space but you want some type of storage or surface. Read MoreI shared with you last week my latest design crush, the Ashbury Mosaic tile, which is part of the Vibe collection by Walker Zanger. So what did I do with my crush, you ask? I took the pattern, created my own stencil and painted it on one wall in my front entryway. There are hundreds of other tutorials out there that suggest all different ways to go about this. I read through a lot of advice until I came up with what worked best for me. Some suggest taping a small level onto your stencil to line it up, I felt that I could skip that step. Others suggested a cardboard stencil, I preferred paper. Keep in mind that any large scale project like this requires a couple days so you have to be comfortable with your process.I did a little bit each day in order to not drive…
Read MoreIn this day and age, practically every home has a flat screen television. Once you’ve brought your television home you are left with two choices, use the stand or wall mount your television. This year, SANUS® and Safe Kids Worldwide partnered to educate consumers about the risk of unsecured flat panel TVs tipping and provide safety solutions. Due to the increasing sizes and new ultra thin designs, today’s flat panel TVs can tip when bumped or pulled, causing them to topple off furniture, potentially causing injury or worse. SANUS® offers a variety of safe and stylish mounting solutions. When SANUS asked me to join their efforts in promoting the safety of mounting a flat panel TV, I didn’t hesitate. I’m so delighted to be part of a campaign that promotes safety to kids. Wall mounts can give anyone, especially parents of young children piece of mind. Once mounted on the wall…
Read MoreI have an upcoming project that I was hoping to use some tile for. As I was looking through some tile websites a couple weeks ago I spotted this pattern by Walker Zanger… all photos via walker zanger This pattern is called Ashbury Mosaic and is part of the Vibe collection. It comes in a multitude of colors. I love the pattern and the repeat. The tile would make quite a statement in a bathroom or as a kitchen backsplash. I’m thinking white matte with a darker grout. Unfortunately I have no renovation projects in my near future that would require this or any other tile. That doesn’t mean I can’t use it. The pattern at least. If you follow me on Instagram you can see that I’ve been putting this pattern to good use. More information next week!
Read MoreI’m bringing you a quick and easy solution that I came up with for those “almost dirty yet not exactly clean” clothing situations. No novel concepts, just something that I have found useful. I used some 3M hooks in a stainless steel finish and placed them behind the door of my sons’ shared bedroom. This solution is for the clothes they have already worn but which are still wearable. My children are quick to throw clothing in the laundry hamper because it is just easier for mom to do more laundry rather than for them to put some clothing away. I’m sure I’m not alone on this one. I wanted to give them another option that was not the bedroom floor. If they actually see the item of clothing they can go for it again rather than take out something clean. This is more of a reality in the cold winter…
Read MoreThis room is one of the other rooms in my home that I haven’t touched too much. Everything I added was purely cosmetic. I spent less than $100 on the entire room. I painted the walls with Benjamin Moore Monroe Bisque. The mirror hanging over the sink was repainted with white. For some reason it is glued to the wall. That whole setup is a big project for another day. I then added artwork, a pelmet box as a window treatment, baskets above the toilet and some hooks on the wall. The previous owners had sprayed the tile on the walls as well as the tub a pure white. I’m glad they did since the floors of this one are a lovely shade of yellow. Note the sarcasm. Here is the before and after… The pelmet box I created using this tutorial. Very easy to do yourself and makes a…
Read MoreAs soon as the holidays are over I get the urge to clean. I love putting my tree up but I love taking it down even more. It happens to me every year. This year it became more of a job of decrapifying than cleaning. I went through the kids’ rooms, the living room, the family room, the guest room as well as a couple closets and purged. The guest room had become the wrapping room for the holidays so all the wrapping paper, tape and ribbons were finally put away. The living room was returned to its usual layout and toys were cleaned out. Some might have been secretly discarded. Don’t tell my kids. I love putting the house back in order after the chaos of the holidays. Now that the break is over I’m ready to start some new projects as well. I have a to-do list in my…

Read MoreMy front entryway has an outlet in a very strange place. It might make sense to someone but not to me. It needed to be higher up on the wall because of the radiator but not that high! I’ve had a lamp plugged into it in the past but I hated seeing the chord. I’ll be redoing my hallway soon so it is currently empty of all furniture and decorations. It looked a little too naked compared to the rest of the house since Christmas decorations are up everywhere. I received a Biltmore Pine 24 inch pre-lit wreath from Treetopia which would perfectly cover the outlet and add some Christmas cheer at the same time. First I determined where the wreath would sit to hide the outlet once it was plugged in. I then attached a 3M hook to the wall to hold the wreath in place. Once the wreath was…
