everyone needs a place to read…

I love my new corner with my new chair. As the light of day gets less and less I realized it needed something. Let me explain. This chair has become the reading chair. As homework and lego’s are worked on around me I can be found there. My daughter curled up on the chair with a new book over the weekend. My son’s new Highlights magazine came in yesterday and this is where all the Hidden Pictures were found. It is a favorite with everyone. My friends at Lamps Plus had sent me a lamp a while back and I wanted to find just the right spot for it. Somewhere visible but safe since people run and play hard in this house. I knew I needed more light in my living room but until my little reading corner was created I didn’t know how much. My new little vignette, lamp…

eye candy {bentwood chairs}

With my new bentwood chairs safely at home I’m on the hunt for some inspiration about what to do with them. I had imagined that one day if I ever found chairs like these I’d paint them all some bright color to cover up other layers of paint and as well as their age. I never imagined I’d find them in such great condition. I’m leaning towards re staining them to match what I plan on doing to my table top in my kitchen. the state of my mudroom

Let me tell you about my mudroom. It is in a stage that I like to call “almost there.” I’ve already spoken a bit about what I started with and how I’ve put it to better use. Then I showed you what it looked like after our basement renovation, when it stopped being a laundry room/mudroom and became a full scale mudroom. It has stayed that way for a bit but now I’m ready to finish it off. It is a hardworking room so I expect a lot out of it. We finally replaced the moldings to cover any exposed pipes from the basement work. All that is left are some finishing touches. In other words, I plan on painting one wall, adding some more storage options on the wall, as well as my favorite part of any room, adding the finishing touches. Like I said, almost there…

I had a bit of a furniture adventure over the weekend. We were visiting family near Rhinebeck, New York and enjoying the beautiful weather. We decided to take the kids to a farm for some fall fun and on the way there I spotted some chairs being sold from the corner of my eye. If I had been driving I would have slowed down, pulled a u-turn and investigated a bit more. I was not driving. We got to the farm and I decided I had to go back and see what they were. My husband took over and I was able to go back and see what it was I thought, or rather hoped, I saw. If my eye was not playing tricks on me they were Bentwood style chairs, you know, these kind… So now you can totally understand why I temporarily ditched the field trip to take…

My three season porch has been finished for over a month now. We’ve enjoyed it on a daily basis. It is my afternoon “the kids are about to come home from school” coffee spot, our breakfast spot in the morning, my “I need a quiet place to make a phone call spot”. I’m pretty sure it’s my mom cave. As I would sit on the wicker sofa and look at the wall I began to realize it needed one more thing. I wanted to have something personal on that wall that would tie the whole room together. Nothing says personal like your own artwork, photographs to be specific. My family had gone on vacation to Greece about four years ago with lots of photographs to reminisce with. One particular photograph I had in mind was from a stop for lunch. We were on the island my father is from and…

an extra place to draw

My boys were a little envious of the large chalkboard wall in their sisters’ room so I began thinking of how I could give them a version all their own. When I was generously offered an All-In-One chalkboard kit by Lullaby Paints in the color of my choice I had my solution. Lullaby Paints supplied me with a child safe, non-toxic, decorator’s grade chalkboard paint. It was simple to apply in that the kit came with everything I needed. Paint in Kings Red, a tray, painters tape, roller and even chalk! Instead of painting it on a wall I branched out a bit. I decided on the back of their door. I framed out a section of the back of their door using the tape that was supplied. I wanted to have a basic block to draw on but decided to “make it fancy” by adding a smaller frame around…

Homeware…

So my chair from Homeware is here and happy in her new home. Her new home is happy as well. I think one of the reasons, for me at least, is that it was all so simple. I’m the figure-outer in this family. From the cameras, to the Wii, to the DVR, to the furniture. I’ve put a lot of things together in my life. Cribs, dollhouses, toy garages, toy kitchens and way too many IKEA pieces to count. I love IKEA, don’t get me wrong, but the wordless instructions with that little featureless man just mocked me as I sat on the floor and put my Expedits together at 11:43 pm. We’ve had 4 of various sizes. I firmly believe that if you can put those together you can do anything. But I digress. First my boxes came. Two white boxes which were a hit all on their own. More on…

So I’m bringing you on my journey to completing my living room with the addition of a chair. When I was asked by Homeware to take a look at some of their chairs I knew which one I would choose right away. I went back and forth between fabric swatches but ended up choosing Fog to bring some more texture and warmth into the room. The chair arrived in record time and I put her together in record time as well. All by my 5 foot 2 self. More on that another time. My daughter immediately sat on her and then named her.
