So I’ve finally come out of the dark ages and joined the world of technology. In other words I bought an iPhone and I’m in love. Instagram alone has got me hooked. I’m just starting out but come follow along with me. There are countless covers to choose from but I’m a person that likes change. I didn’t want to buy a cover and be stuck with the same design day in and day out. I came up with a simple way to be able to change my cover any time I wanted to with a clear cover like this one and some pretty scrapbooking paper. I traced out the back of my iPhone and cut the outline with scissors. I had an extra screen cover lying around so that is what I used to trace the outline. I then placed the freshly cut paper into the case and outlining the…
Read MoreI’ve had a couple comments and questions from readers asking me how I keep my house clean. With three kids running around and summer in full swing, they wanted to know how I keep it tidy and neat. The short answer is… I don’t. A perfect example of this are the pictures I took the other day showing some new artwork in my mudroom. After I took a couple steps back, this is actually what you would have seen… Then from another angle… I’m not by nature a neat person. There are five people living in this house. We have piles of paperwork, magazines, pens, coloring books, toys, and everything in between. Add to that dust and crumbs. The one thing I have going for me is that my house is on the smaller side and cleans up fast. Everything has a place so I can actually de-clutter pretty quickly. …
Read MoreI’m the type of person that has a lot of projects going on all at once. Large projects, medium sized projects, little projects and teeny tiny projects. I might be currently working on my porch but that doesn’t mean I can’t start thinking about the projects I have planned in my mudroom. I’m working a little backwards on this one but I know one thing. This print will be in my mudroom… I discovered Map My State and immediately wanted a print of my own. I’m a proud Bostonian and this 11 x 14 print has a perfect spot on my mud room wall. I was able to pick the color of my choice and they even added my town for me! These prints are a fantastic addition to a child’s bedroom, a gallery wall or anywhere you want to announce your state pride. Besides the state prints they offer city prints,…
Read MoreHand drawn picture frames has been made possible by Shutterfly and Looksi Square. My home is full of pictures of my children, my husband and myself, but not too many of our extended family and loved ones. I’d been looking for a while for a good way to bring some more photographs into our home. When Shutterfly and Looksi Square offered me some free prints and the challenge to come up with something interesting, I got to work. There is one wall in my home that was undone. It is the new wall in our guest room which was put up when we created a bedroom, closet and hallway out of our family room. The wall was primed but not painted and I hadn’t gotten around to figuring out what it needed yet. That is when 60 photographs came in handy. I decided to “wallpaper” a small section of the wall with…
Read MoreI’ve been a little quiet about my porch project for a couple reasons. Well no, basically one reason. It’s been put on hold for a bit. Between unusually hot weather, then loads of rain, then end of school year chaos, as well as some surprise projects, the poor porch had to take a back seat. The ceiling was painted, the furniture was rescued or purchased, the ceiling fan and light fixture were updated, and that is when I stopped. My middle child turned seven and yesterday was the family party. Even though the porch was not finished I decided to pretend it was. I pulled a rug out of retirement, threw it over my children’s graffiti on the floor and called it a party. In the three years that we have lived in this home we have never enjoyed the porch as much as we did last night. Some guests…
Read MoreHave you heard of Houzz? Houzz is a web site and online community about anything having to do with architecture, interior design, home improvement, decorating and landscape design. Today, No. 29 Design was featured. I had a great interview with Becky Harris, who writes some of my favorite articles for Houzz to begin with. The fact that she wrote one about my basement is so thrilling. Thank you Becky and Houzz.com!
Read MoreThis past weekend I was able to head over to Rhinebeck, New York for the Country Living Fair. It was my first time at a fair like this and for someone who likes to shop, browse antiques and generally look at anything pretty, it was heaven. Vendors came from all over to sell their merchandise. I took a lot of photographs so I’m just going to bombard you with images… The highlight of the weekend for me was meeting and getting to know my fellow bloggers from Hometalk, and of course the editor of Country Living Magazine herself, Sara Gray Miller… She spent some time with all of us and I finally had someone the same height next to me in a photo!
Read MoreHaving two boys who are seven and four share a bedroom can be a good thing and a bad thing. I shared a bedroom with my older brother when we were little. Our room had bunk beds and we switched beds every time the sheets were changed. Whoever had the top bunk for the week was the King or Queen and the other was the servant. I have great memories of sitting on the top bunk and pointing to my clothes and toys on the floor and ordering him to pick them up. The best part was that he actually listened! Then one week later the roles were reversed and no one felt bossed around. We learned to get along, work together and share. I swear that is the reason we have never, ever, ever had an argument to this day! I want the same type of relationship for my…
Read MoreI have a new project in the works. The porch has taken a back seat since it has been much too hot to paint. Instead I’m creating something in the nice cool atmosphere of my guest room. I won’t tell you what it is all about yet, just some hints… all photos via design aglow
Read MoreWhen I started giving my porch a little renovation I decided I was going to try to furnish it with all Craigslist, yard sales and antique store purchases. So far so good. For a total of $65 I bought a wicker sofa… a wicker chair… and a small mahogany table… Please pardon the graffiti on the floor. I let the kids go to town since I’ll be painting over it anyways. This new arrangement will be the basic seating for the room along with my older bistro table and two chairs. I’m having fun at the moment rearranging them until I decide where they go. I’m going to leave the chair and sofa as they are, along with some cushions of course. As far as the mahogany table goes I’m not sure what direction I’m headed yet. It is a beautiful vintage 1940’s pie crust table with metal feet. Any…
