The other day while on vacation with my family I made a special trip to my new “happiest place on earth.” Yes, Disneyland was on our agenda but that was for the kids. I’m talking about World Market. I’ve had them as an affiliate on my sidebar for a while but the closest one to me is in Maryland. Being that I live in Boston that shopping trip will never happen. I’ve browsed their website and fallen in love with too many of their items to keep track of. This piece in particular… emerson shelf with step So while in California my friend and I took a mom trip. We left the two husbands and six children at home, grabbed some coffee and headed to World Market. I was not disappointed! Here is what greeted us when we walked in the door… The mix of industrial with traditional was exactly…
Read MoreMy six year old was sick the other day and confined to the sofa. He settled himself down and got cozy, then selected something to watch. His show of choice? The French Chef with Julia Child. For anyone who knows him this is ironic on two levels. First of all, he is the most energetic child imaginable. I would have expected football or Power Rangers. Second, calling him a picky eater is putting it kindly. I wish he were a picky eater. He is beyond picky. He still chose to watch the French Chef marathon going on because he wanted to learn about cooking. Ironic doesn’t even begin to describe this scenario. As I sat down with him I was struck by the wall surrounding the ovens, on the left side of the set. I did some searches online but have not been able to find a good image, just these… …
Read MoreIn the process of redoing my daughter’s bedroom one of the most important decisions we made was the paint color. After doing some research on how colors affect you we settled on the blue family. Pinterest helped out and we narrowed it down even more … We were looking for a calm blue without too much gray in it. Something on the turquoise side of Robins Egg blue. That was what was in my head at least. Some of the paint colors we already had on hand to try out. I’ve used Benjamin Moore Beacon Gray in my boy’s room as well as my mudroom. I purchased some sample bottles of paint for some trial and error right on the walls. We left it there for a few days to see the colors in all different sorts of light. What color did we settle on? The one with the smiley…
Read MoreAs I was checking out Joss & Main the other day I came across a rug. This 5 feet x 7 feet 6 inches rug is being sold for $239.95. Looks familiar, right? Here is my version… I made this rug from three area rugs for a finished size of 2 feet 10 inches by 5 feet. My final price, $66.00! Don’t get me wrong, I love Joss & Main. I’d buy a rug from them in a heartbeat. Saving that much money on a very similar rug feels pretty good though!
Read MoreDo not judge the bereaved mother. She comes in many forms. She is breathing, but she is dying. She may look young, but inside she has become ancient. She smiles, but her heart sobs. She walks, she talks, she cooks, she cleans, she works, she IS, but she IS NOT, all at once. She is here, but part of her is elsewhere for eternity. I know all the emotions that come with the loss of a child. My first child, my baby girl, died when she was just an infant. She would have been 12 years old on January 9th. January 9th is also the day I started this blog one year ago. I was up in the middle of the night unable to sleep as I remembered her and the short time I was able to hold her in my arms. I decided right then and there, at 2 a.m., that starting…

That part is new to me, so here goes… About me Besides being a blogger, I’m a wife, a full-time mom to a 9 year old girl, a six year old boy and a three year old boy, and a graphic designer in my spare time. That wasn’t busy enough so I recently opened an…
Read MoreAs I begin the project of updating my 9 year old daughter’s bedroom we have a big hurdle to overcome, agreeing on a paint color. When we moved in two years ago and she wanted to paint her room dark purple and bubblegum pink I appeased her by buying a wall decal. She choose the decal, she selected the colors and everyone was happy. I’m all for letting kids help in design selections and decorating but I knew that those two colors would only last for so long. Our house has a pretty neutral overall color scheme. This room would scream “a little girl lives here”, and it would make the designer in me cringe, internally of course. Two years later and I’m informed of the following. Pink is for babies. Purple is acceptable but she is now thinking of blue. A light blue, not a baby blue. Absolutely no…
Read MoreTraditional won out and I placed my newly acquired birch logs in my fireplace. Our fireplace has never been used by us. I’m hoping to change that this winter. This area is on my list of to-do’s. I’m hoping to replace the clay tiles in the floor with some larger tiles. Anything other than clay! After that a new screen is in order, or possibly doors. I’m not sure which direction that is going yet. In the meantime the new birch logs add a burst of white to a very dark area. And yes, we started decorating for Christmas. My youngest is three and this was his first year decorating the tree. Tree decorating in our house is an all-day affair. Other years, by the time we got the tree bought, brought in, placed in the stand, set up with lights, and then decorated with ornaments, he was fast asleep.…
