Read MoreI’ve been on the search for rugs. I’ve had a rug in mind for my mudroom, I just hadn’t found it yet. I know, it’s a problem… I wanted something with geometric shapes, no flowers or foliage. It also had to match the color on the walls. I was in the rug section of Target the other day and I found this… It was perfect except for one thing. It was 1 foot 8 inches by 2 feet 10 inches. I started laying them out on the floor and had a light bulb moment. The rugs were all perfectly symmetrical. What if I pieced them together and built my own rug? I laid three rugs together and had a finished size of 2 feet 10 inches by 5 ft, for a total of $66! My mudroom is not the biggest so a rug of this size fits perfectly and this size…
Read MoreI have a new endeavor. I opened an Etsy shop! I’ve been receiving comments and emails from readers asking about some of the artwork I’ve made and used throughout my home. The most popular request has been for the subway art bathroom rules print I came up with for my children’s bathroom. I decided to create various digital prints that are available for you to download. No shipping fees, just a digital file for you to use over and over however you see fit. Each print is an 8 x 10 inch image size in jpg form. You are able to create a print to frame or for use as greeting cards, iron on transfers for t-shirts or bags, etc. Do you have a boys’ birthday party coming up. Here is a perfect example for you. With my Definition of Boys pdf you can print out iron-on transfers and create…
Read MoreWith a new coat of paint on my front door it is time for some fall decorating. A wreath was in order and after receiving a selection of Aleene’s glue and adhesives I got my craft on. I had found some ribbon which matched my door perfectly, in a fall sort of way. Some simple white glossy plastic fruit and a wreath of branches was all I needed to create a simple wreath. I began by wrapping my ribbon around one side of the wreath. I overlapped the ribbon and then glue it on the back using the Aleene Tacky glue. After the ribbon was dry I began gluing the white plastic fruit along the other side. I glued the last three pieces of fruit on and let the wreath sit to dry, with the help of some makeshift stabilizers! Since the wreath is so lightweight I was able to…

Read MoreLike most boys between the ages of 3 and 100, mine are into Lego’s. They are scattered in their bedroom, the living room, the family room and everywhere in between. I don’t think I have to describe the feeling of stepping on one of the tiny pieces in the middle of the night. Not fun. I wanted to have one place for all Lego building and luckily I got a little help from my friend IKEA. The Lack table is used for all sorts of IKEA hacks so I decided to try my own version. I purchased one Lack table for a whopping $7.99. I then found a large gray Lego base plate and framed it out with some smaller white plates. I laid all the pieces out first and measured the border around them so that it was even on all sides. Holding the smaller tiles together with various Lego…
Read MoreI came across this quote on Pinterest the other day and it is my new mantra. via Promise Tangeman Do you find yourself struggling with decisions about your home. Look around you, at everything. From the colors you wear to the wrapping paper you pick out. Don’t conform your style just because it is the latest fad. Don’t get me wrong, fads are fine. I prefer to use them in something small, inexpensive and versatile. I wouldn’t buy a sofa in the latest color or fabric craze, but pillows are another story. Are you still looking for your style or have you found it already?

Read MoreI haven’t posted about the basement for a while. Everything is still a work in progress but let me show you some updated photos. It’s been a little more lived in (i.e. decorated) and is definitely being enjoyed. Here is a before just to jog your memory… Upon entering the basement you are at the bottom of these stairs. There used to be a doorways at the top of them. The doorway was removed in order to create a more welcoming space which flowed with the rest of the house. The far wall contains the built ins we made with six pieces from the IKEA Hemnes line. They are definitely the main attraction of the room with an incredible amount of storage as well as display areas. At the opposite wall is the play area with a huge closet for the toys. And since this is the pretty tour, I…
