updating the master bedroom…

In my continued  effort to force spring to get here as fast as possible I set my sights on my master bedroom. I shared some photos a couple weeks ago and realized it needed some color and light. Everything was a bit neutral and heavy. The lamps weren’t the right scale and the floor needed some warming up.
I lightened and brightened it all up with some bedding, lighting and rug rearranging…
I’ll address the lights first. There is no overhead lighting in this room. We wanted to add one when we first moved in but the air condition grate is right in the middle of the room. I would have centered a light fixture so this option was out. We had two lights on our night side tables and they were not the right scale. Much too small which meant a lower wattage bulb. Not to mention that with heavy furniture the black lamps seemed even heavier. It was all too serious for what is supposed to be a relaxing space.
So I found myself two lamps which are large but since the base is made of glass they are not overpowering. They allow for a three way bulb which works so well for any space. At the highest setting the room is bright and cheery. The lowest setting is perfect for reading a book till you are sleepy. I loved the oblong shape of the shades as well. My 7 year old loves the crystal ball at the top so he can tell the future.
I added the original night side table lamps to our dresser for some task lighting. I see these moving all around the house in the future.
I then addressed the bedding. I selected a cream colored duvet with a coral stitched pattern from Crane & Canopy as well as two matching shams.

The elegant subtle pattern adds some texture and color. I didn’t want anything too loud or busy. I’ll save those types of patterns for other rooms. This is my calm relaxing space. I also added some polka dot sheets as well as an accent pillow on top of the ones I already had.

Last but not least I took the rug from our basement and added it to the bedroom. The soft mix of chenille and jute are a welcome addition to the cold floors!
